Sun introduces SunATM 4.0, a new release
of the SunATM product line which offers support for the Solaris 7
Operating Environment in 64-bit mode. Other enhancements include a common
driver for the full product range, a wider mix of configuration options,
and incorporation of several features to improve overall system
availability.
These powerful SunATM™ (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) adapters operate at
155Mbps and 622Mbps to meet the needs of customers who require very high
speed networking bandwidth to support real time voice, video, image and
data transfer. A full offering of both SBus and PCI-Bus based products is
available.
In 1994 Sun introduced its first ATM adapters. Operating at 155Mbps on
the Sun SBus, they led the marketplace in price and performance. Volume
shipments of these adapters began in 1995. Continued development and
enhancement led to the release of the third generation of these adapters
which included the world's first 622Mbps end-station ATM adapter. Sun
continued its technology leadership with a fourth generation of ATM
technology - Sun's first series of PCI-66 based adapters.
