| Ping the manually assigned
gateway IP address |

| Now open your command prompt or DOS prompt and
run the ping command for the assigned static IP address. |

| Verify the customer has typed the command
correctly then press enter key to execute. |

The ping should reply 4 times from the
10.0.0.138 IP address.
This represents good communication from the PC through the NIC and into the
ethernet port on the modem. |

| YES - If it replies either the modem or the DSL
line is having problems seeing the Bellsouth network. (replace modem
if the line tests clean) |
NO - If it times out here there is an issue
within the PC or the cabling between the NIC and the modem. (troubleshoot
for tcp/ip and NIC drivers ect.)
